A day long gig held in memory of two local musicians is to be headlined by two top ten artists.
The White Horse in Sudbury is to host a day long outside event on August 26th in memory of Lee Dunford and Liam Steer who performed in a band together whilst attending Sudbury Upper School. Lee died in 2006 after a battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma aged just 21 and his band mate Liam collapsed whilst teaching in Thailand after suffering a heart attack in July this year. In memory of the two popular Sudbury men, the White Horse in Sudbury is putting on an all day musical celebration to be headlined by Chris Helme of The Seahorses and Mark Morriss of The Bluetones.
The Seahorses were formed in 1996 by John Squire the guitarist of The Stone Roses and achieved two Top 10 hits (“Love Is the Law” and “Blinded by the Sun”) before splitting up in 1999. The Bluetones had 4 Top 10 hits including the 1996 no 2 “Slight Return”. Mark has performed twice before in Sudbury at the previous two LeeStocks – an annual music festival raising money in Lee’s memory for the Willow Foundation.
Edd Keogh who works at the White Horse, and was friends with both Lee and Liam, was keen to pay tribute to the two former students and when contacted by Liam’s mum, put together the music day.
“LeeStock is a great way for us to raise money for the excellent Willow Foundation, but as it has got bigger we wanted to make sure that people had a chance to truly remember Lee”, Edd said. “When I heard the tragic news about Liam and after speaking to Liam’s Mum we really wanted to do something to give people a chance to remember them both. Many people who knew Lee also knew Liam and so this has been a particularly tough time for them. By having a small event it will hopefully really give people a chance to share stories and memories of Lee and Liam. I’m glad to have the involvement of Lee and Liam’s parents and to have two such big acts playing in Sudbury in their memory”.
The event next Sunday, 26th August, will feature around 10 further local acts and entry will be by ticket, available for just £5. Tickets will be strictly limited and are available now from the White Horse in Sudbury or by calling 07790 431127.
