The Complicated Folk is comprised of exciting young vocalists Mathilda Leighton and Caitilin Pegley, and their (not so young), guitarist uncle Benjamin Pegley.
Ben forms the instrumental core of the band’s sound, playing virtuosic acoustic guitar, occasional banjo, and providing strong male backing vocals.
Mathilda takes the lead on the majority of the band’s material, with occasional acoustic guitar and mandolin accompaniment. Her voice is sultry, pure and emotive, and possessing a beautifully luxurious tone.
Caitilin is a prodigious vocalist and multi-instrumentalist; as well as a beautiful lilting singing voice, she plays acoustic guitar, ukelele, and flute in the band.
The material floats between an eclectic mix of original, often progressive instrumentals, and vocal songs, mixed with a beautiful and sometimes surprising selection of covers.
