We’re very excited to announce that The Pigeon Detectives will feature for us on Saturday 26th May.
The Pigeon Detectives, formed in 2004, are an English indie rock band from Rothwell in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
Their first album, Wait for Me, entered the UK Top 40 chart at number 3, achieving Gold status soon after release. The album was released for CD, 12″ and digital download on 28 May 2007 and charted in the UK Albums Chart at number three in its first week of release. Eventually the record sold around 227,000 copies in 2007, reaching #70 in the end of year chart. It was certified platinum in June 2008.
In September 2007 it was announced that they had been nominated for Best New Act at the Q Awards, eventually losing out to The Enemy. The band then supported Kaiser Chiefs on three of their November/December UK tour dates, including 1 December 2007 at the Manchester Evening News Arena and 15 December 2007 at Earls Court in London.
The following year was a busy time for the band. The release of their second album ‘Emergency’ on 26th May went straight in to the top 5 of the UK Albums Chart. Shortly before the release, the band played their biggest ever shows at Leeds Millennium Square to over 15,000 people over two nights.
After a busy summer of festivals and gigs, including huge shows at Glastonbury, T in the Park and V Festival, they released the second single from Emergency, “Everybody Wants Me”. The band finished the promotion of their second album by playing a sold-out UK and Ireland tour and a special show at Alexandra Palace in London to 8,000 fans.
In 2017 the band toured the UK again in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their debut album. A special vinyl re-release of ‘Wait For Me’ can be bought here.
We’re very pleased to be welcoming them to the grounds of Melford Hall in May 2018.
